Marc Ascoli / Nick Knight / Peter Saville - Yohji Yamamoto Pour Homme Automne/Hiver 1988-1989
Oufff! The holy trinity of Ascoli/Knight/Saville, who whilst working with Yamamoto changed the way fashion was presented. Their first for the house was described as 'Year Zero' for fashion publishing, and although it's a bold claim you can see his point- together they ushered in a new, quiet simplicity, breaking from the chaotic post modernity of the early eighties. They also pretty much introduced the lookbook as an idea, it didn't really exist before them, but of course is now very commonplace. So- this particular example was one of their last together, and very much encapsulates what they achieved together, stark graphic simplicity, bold art direction and lavish production. Oh- that and it's gigantic.
